Barack Obama, the electrifying, charismatic, charming young politician. Barack Obama, the breath of fresh air, the suave law professor, the speaker of the decade. Barack Obama, just what this country needs. That is what we've been hearing all along, isn't it? Ask the typical teenager or twenty-something and they'll give you a description very similar to the one above. What draws people our age to Senator Obama?

3 Plug(s)

After listening to the first few songs, I was the band's newest fan. Showing creative energy in every song, Love at the Core (Tooth & Nail) is not only a fun listen, it also offers food for thought.

1 Plug(s)

Telecast's third album, Quiet Revolution (BEC) is a pleasant blend of piano and guitar hooks, unusual instrumentation, and quirky transitions. Far from being a pop-driven worship album, Quiet Revolution has a uniquely Brit-rock sound (complete with semi-British-sounding lead singer). Crafted by lead singer Josh White and producer Zach Hodges (also a member of Telecast), the album is a "call to holiness for believers."

1 Plug(s)

Life on the road for rock bands isn't all glamour and glitz. True, there are adoring fans, concerts galore, and opportunities to travel. But then there are also down days, like the one that Wavorly was having the day before Matt Lott's interview. "Our van kind of broke down yesterday and we had to make a little detour," explains Lott who ended up in Salt Lake City. Remembering a church in the area, the guys in Wavorly showed up at its front doors asking for help. "Well, they blessed us big time and bought us lunch. They're having a show tomorrow night and they added us to the bill. It was a very welcome gift from God, especially considering yesterday," says the optimistic Lott in his southern drawl. Hailing from Tupelo, Mississippi, Wavorly released its debut album Conquering the Fear of Flight in June 2007 on Flicker Records.

1 Plug(s)

While Tenth Avenue North fits the mold, their national debut, Over and Underneath (Reunion) brings a different quality to the world of music. Instead of falling into another formulaic musical equation, Tenth Avenue uses the common to their advantage, building on what works to produce something with depth.

1 Plug(s)

I've recently come to this startling conclusion-I don't like worship music, at least most of it. I find the driving, happy beat annoying, the simple lyrics uninteresting, and the loudness of it all less than "worshipful". Every time I get a new "worship" album, I feel annoyed. Yet I give each album a chance. At times I am pleasantly surprised and other times I am inclined to propel the album out the window (actually it gets thrown into the "reject pile").

2 Plug(s)

It finally happened at about 2 PM after six long hours listening for strains of his familiar melody on a Christian radio station-Josh Wilson heard one of his songs, "3 Minute Song", for the first time on the radio. Picking up an odd job doing construction with a friend, Josh yelled over the noise of a nail gun trying to tell the crew that "3 Minute Song" was blasting from the car radio. Construction ceased and Josh remembers, "We all sat there and listened. The song ended and I just had this big grin on my face. My boss looked over and said, a4Man, that's great! Get back to work!" He laughs adding, "I didn't quite think that's how it would go down when I heard my song on the radio."

1 Plug(s)

Traveling from Duluth to Chicago in their trusty RV, Harvey the RV, the band noticed a funky odor, and that's when drummer Kevin Cramblet discovered that he had left the emergency brake on while driving to the next stop in the "Generation Rising" tour. Amidst loud yells, raucous laughter, and general mayhem, Pearson laughed, "Welcome to life on the road, where every day's Sunday."

1 Plug(s)

Since the wild success of his book, The Irresistible Revolution, Shane Claiborne has become the poster child for missional living; however, Claiborne would humbly argue that he's just following Jesus. Delighting emergent circles with his no-nonsense talks full of wit, Claiborne is causing people to reimagine how they do ministry and missions. "One of the greatest tragedies that we've done to missions is allowing people to see it as a short-term experience rather than a way of living. We've carefully compartmentalized it-it's trips you go on, it's experiences you have." He pauses and then adds, "The exciting thing is that a lot of people are seeing missions as something we do with our lives-we live missionally."

2 Plug(s)

The story of Tamar is horrible and hard to read; especially when one considers the real and raw emotion Tamar must have felt. Yet this story is in the Bible, not only to show the downfall of David's household, but to teach readers something about rape, to show women who have been sexually assaulted that they are not alone in feeling shamed, unloved, and desolate. Sadly, women in your ministry, both youth worker and students, have been or will be victims of rape or sexual assault. While you may not want to take a student or youth worker who has been a victim of sexual assault to this passage right away, it is a helpful reminder that rape did exist and was mentioned in the Bible. Here are a few things youth workers can pull out of the story of Tamar that is universal in a women's experience of rape.

3 Plug(s)

I am a child of divorce. According to the U.S. Census Report in 2000, a staggering 33% of children under the age of 18 have divorced parents. Statistics are expected to rise dramatically over the next decade. While we as Christians like to focus on the Great Marriage that is to come, we can't ignore the many divorces affecting the lives of our youth (and lay ministers) here on earth. By understanding the thoughts, emotions, and decisions teens face when their parents divorce, adults can offer strength and security in a situation that makes little sense.

3 Plug(s)

A fat kid is often the last one picked when it comes to choosing sides for team sports or the one who is forced to do the entire group project or the one who gets tripped and bullied in the hallways at school. While there are other groups who are also ostracized for how they look, what they believe, or who they are, those who are fat are one of the few who generally think they deserve to be treated horribly.

3 Plug(s)

In the past few days, they've traveled from Ohio to Arizona and now were headed back east again. A fledging rock band, This Beautiful Republic's lead singer Ben Olin, guitarist Adam Smith and his brother, drummer Andrew, bassist Brandon Paxton, and guitarist Jeremy Kunkle did what any of us would do.
