It is one thing to fire someone who actually is playing a game or even getting paid to do something in a company but how do you go about letting a Volunteer go? Now that is tricky business and should be pursued very cautiously.

I've had to dismiss volunteers before and it's never fun, especially when it's someone the kids love.
I think your advice is good, but you forgot the most important tip: pray, talk it through with your pastor and church leaders first, pray some more.

you are absolutely right! I have only had to let two leaders go...it is never fun but it is often the most leadership thing to do. At both times the Pastor gave me full authority of all things that pertained to the student ministry...however I did seek the counsel of the youth team out, without gossipping, hopefully. WE often want to be liked instead of lead properly.
